In the shower this morning, I had a thought that some may consider to be morbid. It was about death and the inevitability of death.
I've thought about what death really is and how it's impossible to truly immortalize somebody. In the end, we will all die and there will be nothing left. If there's nothing left, how can that person truly be remembered? If the human race is completely wiped out, like writing on a whiteboard, how can we expect that what we did as a race even affected the universe at all?
If the earth and humanity will be wiped out altogether, what is it that makes my speck of a life any different? If I'm just going to die and not be remembered, then why should I be going to school? Why should I be doing as told? Why couldn't I just go and do whatever the hell I wanted to do? Because if you really think of it, it makes no difference. I will die, you will die, and our families will die.
I think that our lives should be for us to decide. We should choose what we want to do. Choose what we want to learn. If death is the greatest reality, then I want to make my life enjoyable for myself. I don't want to be stuck in school all day, I want to travel. I want my life to be something that matters to me.
Death is the greatest inevitability. Why not make everything leading up to it enjoyable?
